In September 1971 Walter Applebaum distributed a letter to members of Philadelphia’s LGBTQ community inviting individuals to a meeting for the purpose of organizing a gay friendly church.  Within a month of this meeting Metropolitan Community Church of Philadelphia (MCCP) was founded.

Today, 40 years later MCCP is the oldest Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered and Questioning  (LGBTQ) organization in the City of Philadelphia.

We at MCCP think this is something which all of Philadelphia’s LGBTQ community can be proud. Thus, we invite you to join us as we celebrate 40 years of welcoming who-so-ever!
